Google Chome updates spam policy for Web Store Security

Google Chrome is one of the largest using browser through out the world. It has its own web store for chrome extensions. Recently Google announced that it is update on Web stores spam policy. The spam policy aim is to cut down the low quality and misleading chrome extensions.

Recently in a blog post, Benjamin Ackerman and Rebecca Soares from Chrome Policy and Anti-abuse team explained why Google is introducing the new rules saying –

The increase in adoption of the extension platform has also attracted spammers and fraudsters introducing low-quality and misleading extensions in an attempt to deceive and trick our users into installing them to make a quick profit. We want to ensure that the path of a user discovering an extension from the Chrome Web Store is clear and informative and not muddled with copycats, misleading functionalities or fake reviews and ratings.

The latest spam policy is going to be enforcing on August 27,2020. For extention to be in Web store it has to adher to latest policy update.

This update will prevent misleading practices to get more extension installs and Web store will not accept duplicate extensions. By the end of the August, it will also block huge keyword stuffing to rank extensions higher in the Web Store.
