Twitter released a note about a cyber attack in a tweet by Twitter Support. It said hackers accessed its internal tools to hijack some of the popular profiles like Elon Musk, US presidential candidate Joe Biden, Former US President and many popular verified accounts.
In an investigation to the incident, Twitter said employees with access to twitter internal systems had been targeted by hackers. They used this access to take control of popular verified accounts and tweets on behalf of them.
We are aware of a security incident impacting accounts on Twitter. We are investigating and taking steps to fix it. We will update everyone shortly.

Twitter disabled Tweets, reset password and some account functionality functionality for some time.
As Twitter cames to know about the incidient, it immediately locked down the affected accounts and removed Tweets posted by the attackers.
A lot of popular accounts has been compromised, below you can find some of those accounts.
The twitter accounts which are compromised are tweeting to solicit cryptocurrency.
Twitter Engineering team is trying hard to fix this issue and recover the compromised accounts securely.
